Christmassy Fun Quiz with...Carolyn Crane

Last but by no means least, I introduce to you the awesome and amazing author...Carolyn Crane

Carolyn Crane is one of my favourite urban fantasy authors of all time. I only discovered her (via lastbitepodcast) this year and I am so glad that I did. Carolyn is author of the Disillusionist Trilogy. Two books from the series are currently released and I am hungrily awaiting the release of book three =). Please take the time to check Carolyn Crane's website out.

Now on with the crazy quiz...

  1. If you could stop time for one night like Santa Clause, what would you do with it?
OMG, Naomi, you don’t start with the easy ones. I think I’d sit in front of the fireplace with my husband and read. And have music on. And I would feel like I had all my work done. The cats would be there - behaving, because it’s a magical night. Also, cheese and crackers would be involved.
  1. If you could take one moment from a past Christmas and put it in a snow globe, what moment would it be and why?
I’d go for the Christmas when I was six. I think our family was really happy that year. Christmas seemed magical, and my sisters and I believed in Santa.
  1. When you think of Christmas, do you get that warm fuzzy feeling inside or do you just think ‘it’s just another day and want it to be over with’?
I don’t think of it as another day at all, and I hate to admit this, but I do sometimes hate Christmas. I wish I loved it like some other people do. Somehow, I never feel like I’ve done enough, or gotten people good enough presents or something. My guilty conscience!
  1. What is your favourite thing about Christmas and why?
When it’s over. Look at me! I am always really relieved. Maybe that is why I write urban fantasy! It is the most un-Christmassy genre, besides horror.
  1. Do you have any Christmas traditions that you always keep to?
Actually, I love to take a walk with family on Christmas. That is a really important tradition for me, and our family has always done that, like after Christmas dinner, or sometimes, after the present-opening frenzy. I think, just the action of slowing down and being outside is nice, and gives a sort of good holiday feeling about relationships and all that. At least for me.
  1. Have you ever recycled a Christmas present?
LOL. Oh yes yes yes. And I have always felt bad about it. I always feel like the people know!!
7. Tree topper: Star or Angel? Star!

8. Sledge or bin lid? What? I don’t know what either of those things are. Oh, maybe a kind of sled? Like a saucer? If you are asking sled or saucer, saucer all the way!

9. Red or Green? Red red red!

10. Rockin’ Robin or Jingle Bell Rock? Rockin’ Robin, you kook. That is your funniest question.

11. Christmas Eve or Christmas Day? Day.

12. Mistletoe: Yes or No? Alas, no.

Thanks again Carolyn for taking part...Merry Christmas!!!

Give PJ’s as present and open them Christmas eve to wear them on Christmas morning.

Since I have two toddlers this would probably be sleep. Or read all night. Not exciting but I love to read.

Yes, I got really nice perfume for my birthday but I already had two bottles of it so I gave one away as a Christmas present.

5. What will your New Year resolution for 2011 be and why?

To keep writing and get my novel ready to submit to an agent.

Christmassy Fun Quiz with...Jill Myles

Today I get to introduce one of my favourite authors...Jill Myles.

Jill Myles is the successful author or the Succubus Diaries which stars Jackie Brighton as your local and recently turned succubi - which means she has to have sex in order to stay alive. Now you wouldn't think this would be a problem for some people but Jackie doesn't like the idea of having sex with just anyone, so luckily for her she has two hunks to chose from; an angel (Noah) and a vampire (Zane).

There are currently three books int he Succubus Diaries series; My Fair Succubi, Succubi Like It Hot and My Fair Succubi (out in Dec 2010). You should check them out if you like supernatural fiction with a whole lot of sex. Be carfeul because this series is very addictive.

You can follow Jill via the following;

Twitter: @jillmyles

Here's what Jill had to say in response to my crazy questions for this quiz;

1.       Are you a ‘spread-out-present-buying-throughout-the-year’ kind of person or are you a ‘last-minute-present-buying’ kind of person?

I am VERY much a last minute present buyer. Last minute everything. I normally scramble from the day after Thanksgiving until December 24th. This probably explains a lot of the Christmas presents that I give, too. Sometimes great, sometimes totally, completely random. ;)

2.       When do you put your Christmas tree up?

Usually during Thanksgiving week! But we ordered a  new tree this year (the last one wouldn’t light up anymore) so we’re slacking.  J

3.       If you could stop time for one night like Santa Clause, what would you do with it?

Spend time with my family. It sounds corny but there’s never enough time around the holidays to just sit around the kitchen table, drink coffee, and catch up with extended family.

4.       When you think of Christmas, do you get that warm fuzzy feeling inside or do you just think ‘it’s just another day and want it to be over with’?

My husband and I elected to not have children, so Christmas is less exciting for us than those with small kids. If we want a new video game, we just buy it, right? But I have to say that I love the holiday spirit, I love weather, I love the decorations, and I love all the trappings, right down to egg nog.

5.       If you could take one moment from a past Christmas and put it in a snow globe, what moment would it be and why?

Ooh, that’s really hard. I don’t know the answer to that. I guess any Christmas with all my family around me would do. Maybe the first one after I married my husband, because that one was particularly special to us.

6.       What was your favourite Christmas present as a child?

A bike! I had thought for sure I was getting something lame and practical like a blanket, but I got this amazing bike, and I even think it was pink. That was the best Christmas present ever because I was so very surprised.

7.       Toys or sweets? Well, I would say sweets, but my figure tells me I should say toys. ;)

8.       Favourite Christmas Film? Meet Me In St. Louis

9.       Sledge or bin lid? Bin lid, I think! I’m from Texas and we rarely, rarely ever get snow. My (few) memories of sledding involved cardboard boxes and laundry baskets.

10.   Rockin’ Robin or Jingle Bell Rock? Jingle Bell Rock!

11.   Red or Green? Red!

12.   Snowmen or snowangels? Snow men!
I would like to say thank you to Jill for taking the time to answer my quesions..Merry Christmas!!!

Christmassy Fun Quiz with...Joss Stirling

It's my great honour to introduce...2010 debut author Joss Stirling.

Joss Stirling is the author of Finding Sky - a tale of two soulmates that meet across the pond and face many dangers just to be together. This is a great story and a must read to all yound adult readers out there. To all of those that have read Finding Sky, you will be happy to hear that there will be a sequel in the series called Stealing Phoenix.

Follow Joss via the following:

Blog: Joss Stirling

Twitter: @jossstirling

Here's Joss' answers to my crazy Christmas quiz:

1.    What was your favourite Christmas present as a child?

A big Paddington bear with real yellow wellington boots and a label saying ‘Please look after this bear’ – which I did, of course.

2.    Have you ever recycled a Christmas present?

Is this a euphemism for ‘got rid of’?  I must have done as I do try and keep a lid on the number of books that stay on my shelf and some Christmas ‘misses’ must now be at Oxfam.

3.    If you could take one moment from a past Christmas and put it in a snow globe, what moment would it be and why?

Nice question.  I’m going to go for Midnight Mass when I was a teenager.  I came out of church with my mum and it started to snow – just like in those Hollywood films.

4.    What is the worst present you received and how did you react when you opened it?

One year I asked my husband for the X-Men films.  He went and bought the X Files boxed set.  Gee thanks, honey.  This was ‘recycled’ to my brother-in-law who was a fan.

5.    Are you a ‘spread-out-present-buying-throughout-the-year’ kind of person or are you a ‘last-minute-present-buying’ kind of person?

I’m a last two months kind of person – I start looking in November.  My husband and I always book in a weekday shopping trip to break the back of the task in late November and to have a relaxed day together without having to do the divert-the-children’s-attention thing when we buy a family present.

6.    What do you want from Santa this year?

Tickets to see a West End musical – Billy Eliot or Wicked.

7.    Real tree or artificial tree? Both – one upstairs and one down in the kitchen.  More the merrier.

8.    Milk or Brandy? Brandy – in the cake.

9.    Favourite Christmas Film? A Christmas Carol

10. Red or Green? Green

11. Mistletoe: Yes or No? Why not?  Come on, what’s Christmas without kisses?

12. Christmas Eve or Christmas Day? Christmas morning – all the best moments: present opening, going to our church for a fun service with hyper kids, cooking smells, still feeling hungry and not overfed...
Thanks again Joss for taking part in this quiz - Merry Christmas!!!

Christmassy Fun Quiz with...Angela from SoapBoxInMyMind

May I introduced, the one and only...Angela from Soap Box In My Mind

Without further ado, here's Angela's answers to my fun Christmas quiz...

1.    If you could stop time for one night like Santa Clause, what would you do with it?

Honestly, at this point in my life I would use that stoppage of time to get caught up on all of my chores so that I could enjoy everyday a little bit more.

2.    Do you have any Christmas traditions that you always keep to?

We always wear our Santa hats while putting up our tree, and everyone puts up their own “special” ornaments.

3.    When do you put your Christmas tree up?

The weekend after Thanksgiving.

4.    What do you want from Santa this year?

Enough money to pay our bills, and good health and happiness for my family. Not very inventive...I know!

5.    Have you ever recycled a Christmas present?

Yes I have! Why waste a perfectly good present that I don’t want? Especially if I know the perfect person it would be great for!

6.    What will your New Year resolution for 2011 be and why?

I don’t make resolutions anymore, because I have yet to keep one...or even start one! However, some hopes/goals for this coming year are to get further out of debt and get healthy. My family needs to shed some pounds of debt, and I need to shed a few pounds from the rear end I’ve been supporting these past few years!

7.    Sledge or bin lid? Whichever is handy!

8.    Toys or sweets? Sweets of course!

9.    Favourite Christmas Film? The Grinch

10. Christmas Eve or Christmas Day? Eve

11. Tree topper: Star or Angel? Santa

12. Name all Santa’s reindeer (no cheating) Dasher, Dancer, Donner, Vixen, Prancer, Blitzen, (DARN! I CAN’T REMEMBER THE LAST 2!)
Thanks for taking part Angela..Merry Christmas!!!

The decorations. It's like everyone decides to dress their homes and the city up to the nines.

2. If you could take one moment from a past Christmas and put it in a snow glove, what moment would it be and why?

When my daughter gave me a present for the first time. It was a little puzzle with angels on it and we put it put together on Christmas morning.

3. Have you ever recycled a Christmas present?

Yes. Look at the following question.

4. What is the worst present you received and how did you react when you opened it?

Perfume, and it was not because it was perfume. It was because it was evident that it was last minute and in all honesty I would have been okay with a hug.

5. What do you want from Santa this year?

An iPad.... other than that nothing really.

6. When do you put your Christmas tree up?

So, my family has always put up the tree on Thanksgiving Day, but because we are always at my parents house on Thanksgiving... we've put ours up the weekend before Thanksgiving. By January 6th (Three Kings Day), we consider it another part of the family.

Christmassy Fun Quiz with...Lyndsey from Heaven, Hell & Purgatory

I would love to introduce to you the awesome and ultra organised (do not take that as a fault..believe me I wish I could be as half as organised as this lady)...Lyndsey from Heaven, Hell and Purgatory.

Lyndsey is an avid reader of the young adult fiction genre and is currently a studying English and Linguistics at Nottingham Trent University. This lady is super organised and always has regular reviews posted so her followers won't be without something to read. There's always something going on over at Lyndsey's blog, if not reviews, then there are great interviews with authors. You should really take the time to check her blog out.

You can follow Lyndsey via the following;

Blog: Heaven, Hell and Purgatory

Twitter: @Fiction_Fan

So without further ado, here's Lynsdey's response so my silly and crazy Christmas questions!!

1. What do you want from Santa this year?

A really hot man would be kind of nice. If that fails though and no one can find me one, I would like any of the books on my Amazon wish list or a unicorn!

2. Have you ever recycled a Christmas present?

My Nanna actually buys me and my sister things that neither of us like and we end up swapping them. My Nanna is an Avon lady so we both always end up with a lot of make up which usually doesn't suit our own colourings so we either swap with each other or see if any of our friends want any of it.

3. Do you have any Christmas traditions that you always keep to?

Getting drunk on Christmas Eve. I know that isn't very festive but every Christmas Eve me, Mum and my sister get a few bottles of wine and nibbles and sit in front of the TV and watch cheesy programs and slushy films.

4. What was your favourite Christmas present as a child?

A Mr Frosty. I remember my sister wanting one for years and years but never got one. For some strange reason, my aunt bought me one instead one year and my sister cried for hours. I dont even think I let her use it because I knew it would upset her. I dont think I was very nice to her when we were kids lol.

5. If you could take one moment from a past Christmas and put it in a snow globe, what moment would it be and why?

That would definitely have to be my Christmas in Canada. I dont think I will ever have the chance to see that much snow again and have a perfectly white Christmas. Although it was weird being away from my family, I really enjoyed being out in the middle of now where, making snow angels and a snowman at 7am on Christmas Day.

6. What is the worst present you received and how did you react when you opened it?

I dont think I've ever had a really bad Christmas present. A great aunt bought me some massive Bridget Jones style knickers one time but luckily she wasn't there to see me open them so I just ended up laughing.

7. Rockin’ Robin or Jingle Bell Rock? Jingle Bell Rock

8. Tree topper: Start or Angel? Angel

9. Milk or Brandy? Neither

10. Name all Santa’s reindeer (no cheating) Dancer, Prancer, Rudolf

11. Favourite Christmas Film? Miracle on 34th Street

12. Red or Green? Green

Thanks again Lyndsey for taking part...Merry Christmas!!!
