It has been a while since I participated in a hop..but I'm baaaaack =)

 

Question: Do you read only one book at a time, or do you have several going at once?
Answer: I generally only have one book being read at any given time although I have sometimes in past read two at once.

I think if I try to read more than one book at once then things can get confusing, i.e. information from the two different stories overlap. I don't want my confusion to come across in a review, as that would look rather unprofessional and stupid of me.

Question: Since Thanksgiving is coming up next week, let's use this week's Hop to share what we are most thankful for and what our holiday traditions are!

Answer: As a UK blogger, I don't celebrate Thanksgiving but that doesn't have to stop me saying what I a thankful for.

Firstly I am grateful for Maria at SookieStackhouse.com as she is the one that gave me the opportunity to review books for her website which led me onto creating a blog.

Secondly, I am thankful for all the kind bloggers out there that have made my introduction to the world of blogging so fun and easy. Without you guys I wouldn't have known where to start, so thank you having takeingthe time to write out posts to help other bloggers get started.

Thirdly, I am hugely thankful to all my followers. You guys rock and I love the comments you leave, even if I dont' get a chance to reply to them all, I do read them.

And last but by no means least, thank you to all the wonderful authors out there. Don't ever stop writing as it's you guys that create the books that gives me something to ramble on about in my reviews. Plus they give me endless of hours of reading and enjoyment.

Question: What are your feelings on losing followers? Have you ever stopped following a blog?
Answer:  Hmm..I don't know my answer to this LOL! I'm not sure I HAVE lost any followers on my blog but I know if I were to then I would probably be a bit upset by it. But at the end of the day, my blog is about me and what I enjoy reading and reviewing etc. Every one is different and may have started off with the same taste in books as myself but I understand that people change and their tastes change. So basically I would be a little sad but I wouldn't take it personally.

Second part of the question - I think I have stopped following a few blogs but it's not down to them doing anything wrong. It's just that what I may have seen at first sight being a blog I would enjoy reading, later on down the line I might realise that that blog isn't a fit for me due to style, content etc. But it wouldn't be anything personally against the blogger, it's just that we have different tastes. That's all. I wouldn't want to follow anyone that I can't contribute anything to, i.e. comments.

Question: What is the one bookish thing you would love to have, no matter the cost? 

Answer:  I am going to give you two of my options, one that would require me winning the lottery to ever fulfill and the other which is a bit more realistic and financially achievable.

First Option - My dream would be to have my very own personal library, like a whole house or something filled of books that I love. I think it would be great to be able to just walk into a room, pick up a book and enjoy. That is my idea of book heaven.

Second Option - On a bit more on the realistiv side is that I would like a Kindle..been thinking about it lately and I think I HAVE to get one LOL

Question:  Where is your favourite place to read? Curled up on the sofa, in bed, in the garden?
Answer: I can read in many different place and I can't really say I have a favourite but I suppose if it's the place I read most often then it would be the sofaor my bed as these are the two most repetitive places that I read.

This is my fourteenth hop and I am still finding great blogs out there!! Blog on =)

Question:  When you read a book that you just can't get into, do you stick it out and keep reading or move to your next title?

Answer: So far I haven't had much books like that for me and when I have done, they haven't been books I have been sent for review or ones I have bought personally. It's normally ones I have borrowed from the library. For the ones that I have come across that I couldn't get into, I normally stop reading if I can't get into it after the first few chapters.
Having said that, if I was sent a book for review and couldn't get into it, I would probably stick it out for longer to ensure that I definitely am not enjoying it because of the story itself and not the starting chapters. I would definitely try and stick it out so I could give a review at the end whether negative or positive, but if I truly couldn't get into it at least half way thru then I would probably give up.

I would give books for review more of a chance to win me over than I would if I borrowed a book from the library because the way I see it, the authors/publishers have been kind enough to send me a book for free to review, the least I can do is take the time to at least give the book a chance before adding it to my not-finished-reading pile.

Question:  What's your favourite beverage while reading or blogging, if any? Is it tea, coffee, water, a glass of wine, or something else?

Answer: I'm not much of drinker when reading/blogging. Tends to be a distraction to me from what I am doing so I tend to take a breather and go eat/drink if need be. But if I was to drink anything whilst reading/blogging it would probably be a nice cup of tea or tin of juice.

Question:  How do you spread the word about your blog? (e.g. Social Networking sites, Book Blog Directories, comments on other blogs...)
My Answer:  When I first created my blog I had no idea as to how to get myself out there. I originally started writing reviews for http://www.sookiestackhouse.com/ but then decided to start up a blog. After vising a few blogsI found that bloggers took part in memes like this one and many others. This helped me find other blogs that had some great bloggers and reviews and through this I left comments and starting following the blogs I liked. In turn I took part in the weekly memes which helped me find followers and I appreciate every single one of them.

Question: When you write reviews, do you write them as you are reading or wait until you have read the entire book?


My Answer:  I wait until I have read a book in it's entirety before reviewing the book. If I wrote a review whilst I was reading a book then I think the review would be all over the place. I wouldn't be able to give it an honest review with only knowing some of the facts half way through the book.

I try to review a book right after reading it but sometimes I don't have the time or access to a computer to write one up so sometimes it can be a few days to a week before I write a review. I normally sneak a peek at some pages before I write a review if I have left it a while. Just to take the brain on a wee jog down memory lane.

This is my eighth hop and I am still finding awesome blogs - I think you should go have a peruse at the list of bloggers. You will most definitely find a blog you like - it's hard not to.

Blog Hop Question: Do you judge a book by its cover?

If I have heard it's a great book and I want to read it, I won't care what the book cover is like.


If it's a book that I haven't seen before and it's sitting there on a shelf, then yes sometimes I do judge it by it's cover. The cover has to lure me in to get me to read the synopsis. I sometimes pick up books with covers that are not appealing to me to read the synopsis at least, but the majority of the time if the book cover doesn't have me wanting to pick up the book then I don't.


I know it's a real bad thing to do, but to me a book cover is meant to sum up the book without giving too much away e.g. Hush Hush the cover had boy on the front with wings so it was obvious the book was about angels which appeals to me so I picked it up (this isn't exactly how it happened for me with this book, but using it as an example).

EDIT: After reading some other responses to this question, I have realised I have left some things out.
1. A pretty cover will lure me in but I won't buy it solely based on the cover art, the synopsis has to be good also, otherwise there's no point buying it as I won't read it.
2. Attractive covers do get me to go over to the book, but once I am done looking at all the pretty covers I do go and look at other books that may not be as alluring but have a great synopsis.
3. If it's an author that I like and enjoy reading their work, then most of the time I won't bother to look at the cover other than to search for the title or the author's name to make sure I'm picking up the right book. Majority of the time I buy it because I like the author's writing and know I will enjoy it regardless of the cover art. But if it's just books I am perusing through to see what there is then yes, the attractive covers do lure me first but they aren't what I buy the book for.

Blog Hop Question: Do you use a rating system for your reviews and if so, what is it and why?

Yes I do have a rating system. It's not one that I came up with though. The website (SookieStackhouse.com that originally asked me to write reviews before I created a blog had their own rating system, which was created by Tamara. I asked permission to use their rating system as I thought it would be be more consistent instead of having to change my ratings for posting on my blog and for the site. Makes my life easier. This rating system works for me, no point in fixing it if it ain't broke hehe =)

I think for me this would have to be Jeaniene Frost, author of the Night Huntress series. I hadn't heard of her books until this year and once I read them I was hooked! I like to read books in the supernatural/paranormal romance genre although I do like reading others books like thrillers and obscure genres (e.g. Memoirs of a Geisha - I don't know what genre to put this in) but my interest has mainly been in the former for the past two years.
