Secrets and Trust is the second installment in ‘The Vampire Relationship Guide’ series by Evelyn Lafont. Funny, sexy and hot are just a few words that would sum this book up to me (and the lead male character Walker..*fans face*).
This book basically picks up where Meeting and Mating (book one) leaves off. Josie and Walker have been spending some quality time together after her near death experience and are on a road trip to Texas, Walker’s home. There were quite a few surprises in this book for Josie and it all started when she arrived at Walker’s humble abode. We see Josie and Walker’s relationship progress as they start to get a bit more serious about one another and what that entails.
I think the basis of this series revolves around relationships. I think if you took the supernatural aspect out of the story, these rules to dating and relationships would be just as applicable in real life. Everyone has to decide what they want from a relationship and work hard at it to make it work if they think it’s worth it. Which is exactly what Josie and Walker are doing in this series. The supernatural aspect is a fun twist to the story and makes it more appealing a read for me. Nothing to do with Walker being such an irresistible, hot and sexy vampire…*shakes head*, nope nothing to do with it at all *smiley face*.
Overall, thoroughly enjoyed reading this installment in the series and can’t wait to see what Lafont comes out with next. It’s definitely a series for those that like reading about the supernatural, especially vampires and werebunnies.

The Rational Appeal of Supernatural Books
As a reader, I tend to get into these grooves during which I only want to read a specific type of book for, like, months on end. Lately (as in, for the past year or so), if a book doesn’t have a supernatural element—like a vampire, demon, fae, sorcerer, whateverer—I can’t…um…sink my teeth into it.
There once was a time when I could read conventional chick lit without any supernatural goodies or badies and be perfectly content but now, I want funny, sexy, romantic and otherworldy to scratch all my itches. (Okay, really, could I have used a grosser analogy than that?)
Recently, I began wondering about this change because, since I’ll be turning 36 this year, I feel like my tastes should be getting more practical and less fantastical but my reading preferences seem to be pulling me the other way. I can’t help but wonder if it isn’t the age thing that’s really causing this. After all, the older I get, the more I have to face my own mortality. And you know what supernatural characters have in common? Immortality or, in the very least, a super long lifespan.
But another way that age might be affecting my reading choices is that the older you get, the more you realize that…oh, how do I put this…life is boring. Well, maybe not always but it is a bit—predictable. So why wouldn’t I want to pick up a book that has a reality no one could see as boring and events that I can’t possibly predict?
Every reader, obviously, is different. Each will have their own reading quirks, favorite genres and irrefutable reasons why they are completely devoted to that genre. For me? Gimme something funny, with a bit of bite, and a sexy otherworldly live-forever type, and I’m happier than a human chick lying in a pile of sexy vampires. Well…almost.

The Vampire Relationship Guide Volume 1 is the first book in a series by Evelyn Lafont. This short novel is full of mystery and humour.
Josie works in a bridal shop, the worst place to meet the man of her dreams. The only thing is the man of her dreams isn’t technically a man - he’s a vampire. All of Josie’s dreams come true when she is invited to a vampire party. This could be her chance to meet Mr Right..fangs and all.
Well not only does Josie land up dating one vampire, but she ends up dating another one too. Gregory is the vampire of Josie’s dreams; gorgeous, rich and a gentleman. Walker is the exact opposite of what she is looking for; a smoker and awful and rude to women. Who does she end up with? Well I will let you read that to find out.
My favourite part of the book was the ending where Josie realised who Mr Right for her is. She has been on a rollercoaster of a ride and to be honest, I was a bit confused as to who she should trust. There is one sex scene in this book and I must admit it is rather hot, so if hot and steamy scenes are your thing, you will love this book. Josie constantly has sex with vampires on the brain. She is so quirky and lovable as a character. I also loved the detailed explanations as to how the vampires in Lafont’s novel had to stay away from the sun etc. Brilliantly executed.
Overall, thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and I would definitely recommend it to my friends and fellow bloggers. It’s a nice short read and has all the right elements that is needed in a vampire romance. Can’t wait for the next instalment.
